My favorite restaurant to go to for BBQ is Famous Dave’s. On their menu is a side dish called Wilbur beans. It wasn’t my intention to recreate those beans, I only mention them because I liked them so much and this recipe takes the things from those beans that I like and adds a little bit of other flavors. These beans are spicy and very flavorful.

This recipe just takes canned beans and adds a few other ingredients so the recipe is fast and simple. These tasted nothing like the originals but they had lots of that barbecue flavor that I love so much. If this is not for a large group, it is probably best to cut the recipe in half, but I love these beans so I went crazy!

  • 1/2 pound bacon, browned and crumbled
  • 1/2 pound spicy sausage links, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 (28 ounce cans) baked beans
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Hot sauce to taste
  1. Mix all ingredients together in a pot.
  2. Simmer for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to come together.
  3. Alternately, place in a crock pot and heat on low for 2-3 hours.
