Cocoa Fluff

My grandmother can’t remember where she found this recipe, but it was definitely on a box for something from a long time ago. At least while I was a child, she always made this as a frosting for angel food cake for my mother’s birthday. I think I probably enjoyed it more than my mom did, which [...]

Vanilla Pudding

I got the bug to make pudding from scratch this week after the husband bought some Jell-O pudding cups for his lunch. My favorite pudding is butterscotch, but I settled on vanilla because it seemed easier. (When trying new recipes, sometimes I have to play confidence games with myself.)

This was a messy experience, but overall [...]

Cookie Dough Truffles

Tastes like raw chocolate chip cookie dough, but without the raw eggs and dipped in dark chocolate. I think I’ll just leave it at that.
I give you Cookie Dough Truffles from Taste of Home:

Seven Layer Bars

These bars are another holiday treat that I grew up with and now make on my own. We called these Seven Layer Bars, but I’ve also seen these called Magic Cookie Bars and Seven Layer Magic Cookie Bars.
Note: There are not seven layers in Seven Layer bars. I count five layers. You could have six [...]

Pound Cake

If you are looking for the opposite of a healthy food, then this cake is for you. Apparently the pound in “pound cake” refers to the butter. I think I knew that but it is still surprising when you actually make it. This cake is far better than any pound cake you can buy in [...]

Mrs. Guenther’s Sugar Cookies

For the last four years, I’ve been attending my friend Nikki’s cookie exchange. What’s a cookie exchange? Everybody brings one dozen cookies for each person in attendance and then gets to go home with a dozen cookies from each person. So, on Saturday, I’m bringing five dozen sugar cookies to exchange for five dozen different [...]

Spice Cake

This was a very simple cake to make. The preparation took only a couple minutes. I was looking for a simple cake that didn’t need to be frosted. I am not very good at frosting anything. As you can see, I am barely any good at spreading a glaze over the top.
The recipe called for [...]

Brownies

I had one of the best kinds of surprises waiting for me when I got home today… brownies! Not your box brownies either, actual homemade ones!

4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
3/4 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
2 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted (optional)
powdered sugar [...]

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

As soon as I saw these Pumpkin Whoopie Pies posted on Just Eat It, I knew I Just Had To Make Them. Had to.

Still, these gems exceeded my expectations. My house smells like Pumpkin Paradise and I have two dozen* of these cake-like cookies filled with frosting. Pure fall bliss!

* The recipe states I should [...]

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I could tell you that I made these cookies so I could use up some of the oatmeal in my cupboard, but that would be a lie. I just wanted to make cookies. I followed this recipe from bakingsheet (now Baking Bites) after falling for the first line:
These are, hands down, the best oatmeal chocolate chip [...]
