Somewhere along the way, hamburgers became fast food items. It is true, they are quick and easy to make, but why go to some chain fast food restaurant for a burger when you can put something together that is uniquely yours in about fifteen minutes?

My case and point: this burger. I like spicy food. You can certainly get “spicy” burgers and sandwiches from restaurants but unless it is a special item from a mom and pop place, it seems like it is never really that spicy.

The goal for this burger was to make the patty spicy while offering other items that would offset the spice and round out the flavor. This burger was made with ground chuck and a few addons to give it flavor: red pepper flakes, worchstershire sauce, liquid smoke and sriracha hot sauce. It is topped with american cheese, lettuce, bacon and thousand island dressing.

It definitely packed an up front punch but it quickly cooled.

  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 1 tablespoon bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon worchestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 teaspoon sriracha hot sauce
  • red pepper flakes to taste
  1. Pre-heat a grill or grill pan to medium-high.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl using your hands and fingers to mix the ingredients together.
  3. Once all ingredients come together, separate mixture into four equal parts and pat into hamburgers.
  4. Sear hamburger patties for about three minutes on each side. This will give you medium-rare. For burgers that are more done, cook longer.
