Horseshoes might not be considered “old fashioned eating,” but when the husband offers to cook a meal, you don’t say no.

If you’re not from Springfield, Ill., you probably have never of heard of these. Lucky for me, I married a Springfield boy who, on occasion, cooks for me. Horseshoes are one of his specialties. (His other specialties include steak on the grill and lasagna.) Horseshoes are definitely a splurge and not everyday food, though they are easy to put together.

Horseshoes

  • 2 slices white bread, toasted
  • 2 hamburgers
  • French fries
  • Cheese sauce*

Assemble in the order listed above, starting with the toast. Cover with ketchup if desired.

* My husband’s family uses Frito Lay canned cheese. Just tonight I found a sauce recipe that we will try the next time week make these.
