This is the epitome of an old fashioned meal at home: a hot dish. The ingredients are simple and there were plenty of leftovers for the week. This meal took about an hour to make and running the oven was perfect for heating up the house now that it is getting cooler.

Just for the record, yes, the ground beef in the photo collage below is the same ground beef as was used for the barbecue recipe earlier. Browning all the ground beef at once saved a lot of time and since I was only storing it cooked for a couple days it turned out fine.

Toter Tot Hotdish

  • 1 pound ground beef, browned
  • 1 bag tater tots
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can corn
  • salt to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Combine ground beef, 1/2 bag tater tots, one can of cream of mushroom soup, corn and salt.
  3. Spread into the bottom of a 9×13 pan.
  4. Spread the remaining tater tots over the mixture and then cover with the remaining cream of mushroom soup.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30-45 minutes. During the last five minutes remove foil and allow top to brown.
